Frequently Asked Questions
A lot of people prefer car leasing in New York because they want to change their vehicle every two to three years. When it’s time for a new car, you may ask, “Do I buy or lease a car?” Both strategies come with benefits, such as:
- Buying a car lets you make payments toward a vehicle that you eventually own outright. The car is yours to keep, sell or trade in.
- Leasing a car gets you a brand new car at an affordable price. You make payments for a pre-determined lease period and return it at the end of your lease. After you return your leased car, you have the option to lease another brand-new car or purchase the leased car.
Your choice of whether to lease or buy depends on your personal situation. If you know you’re going to be driving more than 15,000 to 20,000 miles per year, consider financing a car. If you think you’re going to be driving less, consider leasing a vehicle. A lease is also the better option if you want:
- A brand new car at a good price
- A new car in three years
- The most affordable option
By leasing a car, you avoid headaches of extended warranties, services and other issues that come with older cars. Find a good deal at eAutoLease.com, where you’re never rushed. We want to find you the best possible deal with the right options.
Before you lease a car, understand the terms and language of the agreement. Leasing terms include:
- MSRP. The Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price is the total cost of the car if you were to buy it brand new.
- Sale price. This is the price you pay for leasing the car. The lower your sale price, the lower your monthly payments.
- Money factor. This is the interest amount you pay on your lease, which depends on your credit score, but can be negotiable.
- Residual value. This is the cost of the car after your lease ends. You can buy your car at the end of your lease for this price. If you choose not to, the dealership buys it back at this price.
These figures are all negotiable, except for the MSRP, which is the price set by the manufacturer. At Direct Motor Group, we offer the lowest prices on the market because we keep our overhead low. Do you want automatic or manual transmission? Do you care about speed or reliability? Pick a car that has the features that are important to you and your life.
- Consider how many miles you drive. When leasing a car, you need to figure out how many miles you’ll drive. A common limit is 10,000 or 12,000 miles per year. If you go over your allotted number of miles per year, you’re charged a fee per mile. The price per extra mile over your lease agreement is about 15 to 30 cents. You’re better off buying the miles you need up front than paying the fees when you exceed the limit.

You may trade in a leased car, but your experience depends on several factors. Consider these two examples:
- Let’s say you have a three-year lease agreement and your vehicle is worth $20,000 after the second year. If you still owe $25,000, the $5,000 difference is your penalty for trading it in early. In this case, it’s in your best interest to keep the lease agreement for another year.
- Imagine your car is worth $20,00 after the second year of your lease and you owe $15,000. In this case, you can trade in the vehicle you lease with no penalty and benefit from exiting the lease contract early.
Make sure you have a good reason for wanting to trade in your leased car early. You don’t want to have to pay extra, and you also don’t want to leave money on the table. Call our experienced lease experts to ask about your situation and whether trading in your leased car makes sense for you.
If you believe you’re a victim of car leasing fraud, call us at (516) 765-1003. We’ll do everything possible to help you. The most common fraudulent car-leasing scams involve:
- A price mismatch on the final documents
- Lying about the interest rate
- Factoring add-ons into the lease that increase its length
The best way to avoid any potential financial drawbacks or scams while leasing a car in New York, New Jersey, or Pennsylvania is to rely on the most reputable car leasing provider. If you work with Direct Motor Group, you can rest easy, knowing your needs come first. The most common restrictions you’ll find involve the duration of the lease and the mileage limit. Most lease agreements run two-to-three years. The average mileage limit is 12,000 miles, accounting for 36,000 miles within three years. It’s not possible to lease a car without a mileage limit.
There are no such programs. In fact, being a first-time buyer may work against you. It might be extremely difficult, for example, to lease a car from BMW, Audi, Toyota, Lexus Mazda if you are a first-time buyer, Direct Motor Group works closely with the banks to facilitate your approval process.
The national car lease approval rates are around 70 percent. Direct Motor Group is proud to be in the 90 percent range. Direct Motor Group works with multiple financial institutions to find the lowest possible rate on a new car lease in NYC.
Car leasing is subject to credit approval, which involves your credit history and score. A credit score is a crucial factor in determining whether you’ll get financing. Banks may also consider your income, existing debt obligations, and your track record for handling debt. According to the credit bureau Experian, the average credit score of customers starting a new lease was 725 in 2019.
A bad credit score doesn’t automatically disqualify you from getting approved for a car lease offer. Different brands offer incentives for people with bad credit scores, including Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi and Kia. Unlike other car leasing brokers, Direct Motor Group is not going to stop searching for the perfect deal until we find the right car for you.
When you lease a car for your business, you can deduct the mileage and actual expenses such as monthly payments, interest, tax, upkeep and maintenance including inspections, oil changes, new brakes and tires. It’s possible to deduct 100% of your business leasing cost if you are planning to use your lease vehicle solely for business purposes.
The short answer is Yes, but a lot of people get confused between leases that offer “no money down” and “sign and drive” options. Even with a no money down or $0 down lease, you’re still responsible for paying taxes and initial fees. “Sign and drive” literally means you don’t need any money at the signing. Direct Motor Group is fully transparent, and our specialists explain the whole process, as well as fees required at your signing.
Yes, you can do that. Lease swaps are a great option for people who aren’t ready to commit to a two-or-three-year lease agreement. It’s not always possible to lease a vehicle for only one year without making use of lease swaps. Call Direct Motor Group to find out if a specific make offers 1-year lease deals.
While it is possible, not all automobile makes offer this option. You can extend your lease agreement for a maximum of one year. Note that extending a lease contract requires that you purchase an extended warranty. All makes offer extra maintenance programs that cover all your needs, such as oil changes, tires, brakes, air filters and windshield wipers. The majority of new vehicles come with a three-year warranty from the manufacturer. Toyota and Lexus, however, offer free maintenance programs.
Yes. The final refinance amount depends on the residual value of the car. The residual value is the estimated value of the vehicle at the end of the lease period. For instance, if you lease a $50,000 vehicle, it’s expected to depreciate 20 percent in the first year. So its residual value at the end of a one-year lease would be $40,000, which is the price you’d pay to buy it.
You can do that anytime during the lease term. Refinancing your car makes sense if you are driving more than you expected. For instance, if you have a 10,000-mile limit per year, but you’re driving 15,000 miles a year, consider refinancing your vehicle. At Direct Motor Group, we can take care of this process for you.
SUV vehicles normally come with tinted windows already. Sedans typically don’t have standard tinted windows. Each state has different laws and regulations about the tinting on your windows. Even if you tint the windows yourself, you may need to remove it at the end of the lease term before you return the car.
You may move out of state when leasing a car, but you must change your insurance and registration. Direct Motor Group lease specialists can help you and answer your questions.
Regarding driving for Uber, you need to get an extended mileage program and bear in mind that not all automobile makes will approve your lease if you plan to drive for Uber or another ridesharing service.
